The Friends of Foothills Schools Foundation is excited to let you know about Literacy Playground, a special, no-cost learning opportunity designed to help Grade 3 students enrolled in a 麻豆天美传媒 school (Fall 2025). This program is designed to help students who are not reading at grade level, strengthen their reading skills – while having fun!

This unique program runs August 18 to August 29; September 19; October 24; and November 10 – 14; 2025, and is open to a limited number of students who could benefit from extra support in reaching grade-level reading. Similar programs have helped students improve by one to three reading levels – and the best part? It’s absolutely free for participating families.

Program Highlights:

  • Location: Foothills area facility
  • Hours: 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM (Monday to Friday)
  • Transportation: Daily bus pickup and drop-off from a central hub
  • Meals Included: Breakfast, lunch, and two snacks provided
  • Daily Activities:
    • Morning: Focused literacy instruction in small, supportive groups
    • Afternoon: Hands-on, practical learning with local community experts – bringing the morning lessons to life in fun and exciting ways
  • Cost: None! This program is fully funded by the Friends of Foothills Schools Foundation (FFSF) thanks to a grant from the Calgary Foundation and a donation from Cargill.

Why Literacy Playground?

We know that some students need a little extra time and support to feel confident in their reading and learning skills. This focused program is designed to give them exactly that: a boost in confidence, motivation, and skill. Our goal is to see each student grow in their reading (especially their CC3 scores), and feel ready to take on the new school year with confidence.

Your Commitment

To ensure your child gets the full benefit of the program, we ask that you and your child commit to attending all program days. Regular attendance is essential for achieving the best results.

Is Literacy Playground Right for My Child?

If your child was in Grade 2 (entering Grade 3 in Fall 2025) and who are developing their literacy skills, typically performing at a reported 1 - 2 level throughout most of the year, this program is for you. Our goal is to not only improve reading scores, but also create lasting confidence and a love for learning.

Don’t miss this chance to help your child grow, learn, and succeed.

Space is limited, so we encourage you to express your by July 28, 4 pm.  Additional details about transportation hubs, daily schedules, and what to bring will be provided upon acceptance into the program.

Let’s work together to help your child reach their full potential. For more information: hello@foothillsfriends.ca
